I got a call last week that Savannah needed some head shots. I love the name Savannah. It just seems so old south, and I’m a southern woman, through and through. I had a senior last year with the same name and I had a blast with her which made me look forward to another Savannah. I had never met this Savannah, but I had met her mother a few times and really enjoyed talking to her. Several of my dear friends had told me about Savannah . . . how cute she is, what a fantastic dancer she is, what a sweet girl she is . . . and lots of other good stuff. So when Jen called, I was excited to have the chance to work with Savannah. And she was, indeed, a treat. Savannah is an extremely talented dancer who hopes to make it her career. She has been chosen to attend a very prestigious international ballet competition where she will have the opportunity to work with some of the best teachers and judges in the world. So she wanted updated head shots to send. Since I don’t have an actual brick and mortar studio, Karen (my assistant) and I set up in my open carport. We even grabbed Karen’s daughter, Katie, to help us out. I’m sure people riding down Daniel Drive wondered what on earth was going on at my house this afternoon. Karen and Katie held up brooms with a sheet clamped to the handles to block the direct sunlight while I photographed Savannah on a backdrop suspended from brackets on the back wall of the carport. It may have looked a little strange, but it worked and I got some great head shots. It was really nice to be shooting after a short break and I loved working with Savannah.

After the head shots, I took a few poses of Savannah in dance positions. That young lady can get herself into positions that it would take an orthopedist and a crane to get me in! She has studied and worked so hard to get where she is in dance, it’s nice to hear that her dreams are coming true. As I watched her lace up her pointe shoes, I had an idea for a picture I wanted. It’s not something Savannah needs for her portfolio – but something I wanted for ME. And Savannah was sweet enough to go along with me. I bet she’s going to love this one!

It felt really good to have a camera in my hands today. No matter what is going on in my life, I always feel better when I’m shooting. If I could just have a client like Savannah every day, I’d think I had died and gone to heaven!
