mary and courtney’s gallery

Mary and Courtney have been married 4 weeks today! When editing their pictures (which took nearly two weeks!) the thing that I noticed over and over was how happy they were. They smiled and laughed the entire day. This is what weddings are all about . . . joy and emotion. I’m glad I was there to capture it for Mary and Courtney.

alec and sam

This is the 4th year I’ve done portraits of Alec and Sam for their family Christmas cards. We start out saying that we just need a picture or two for the Christmas cards – but end up with a full-fledged portrait session. I just can’t stop shooting pictures of these two. Alec was just starting middle school when I first photographed him. Though it’s very difficult for me to believe, Alec is now in high school. I know he must think I’m the biggest geek ever, but he still puts up with me. He has a very quick wit and a little bit of a sarcastic sense of humor – so we get along well.

Here are a couple of pictures of Alec.

Alec and Sam’s parents are friends of mine. It’s nice to have younger friends because I get to be around their children. And other peoples’ children are always more fun than your own. They don’t talk back; they don’t mess up your house; and they don’t drain your bank account. Sam is always such a joy to be around. When she comes to my house, she plays with my cat, Puddin’ (or she tries to, anyway). Puddin’ is a bit uppity. And Sam is always so pleasant and good natured. Sam always lets me take as many pictures as I want – even when she’s freezing. Here are a couple of pictures of Sam.

Now here are two of the kids together. My favorite so far is the black and white. I have barely started editing their session so I’m sure I’ll find more I love, but for now this is my top choice.

I just love Sam’s attitude in that last one. And, I know Wendi’s mother will love it, too. She likes all the pictures I take of her adorable grandchildren!

mcnair and coco

Wow ~ what a difference two years can make. I photographed McNair and Coco almost exactly two years ago. McNair was a precious little girl and Coco, her canine companion, was about the cutest dog I had ever seen. Now, McNair has grown into a beautiful young lady – and Coco is still about the cutest dog I’ve ever seen! It was really good to see them again. Even though McNair is growing up, Coco is still her true love. They share a very special relationship. If the truth be known, I think Coco pretty much rules the roost – which is as it should be, I’m sure.

I love doing pictures for McNair’s family because they only want black and whites. If it were up to me, I’d never show anyone anything but black and white. There is a timeless, classic quality to black and white that you just don’t find with color. It truly speaks to me – which is a little scary, I know.

I’m still trying to get used to the loss of daylight savings time, so we started shooting a little later than we should have. That means we lost the light really fast. But, we worked quickly and everyone was cooperative, so we got some great shots of McNair and Coco. I’m not sure what was used to bribe McNair – but Coco was promised turkey if she behaved.

I haven’t finished editing this session, but I’ve picked out a few favorites to show.

And this is probably my very favorite of McNair alone. I’m not sure her parents will like it. In fact, I think I can hear their response right now . . . “that makes our baby look so old!” Oh my, it’s only going to get worse!

lauren

I first met Lauren when she was a flower girl in Jessica’s wedding. Although I shot lots of pictures of her, I didn’t really get to know her until I worked with her alone on Saturday. I’m quite certain that in a previous life Lauren was a princess. She loves to wear pretty dresses – with pink being her favorite. And she loves to dress up. Her dress up clothes had lots of sequins, feathers, jewels and other adornments fit for a princess. She even has a Cinderella dress!

While many children don’t like to have their pictures taken, Lauren is the opposite. When I told her we were finished, she picked up the chair, moved it to a new spot, settled in, and started posing. Lauren really enjoyed being the center of attention. And I really enjoyed photographing her.

Meet Princess Lauren!
